June 12 was a day for reflection and celebration as the Destin Fort Walton Beach Rigdon Center welcomed a sold-out crowd of nearly 500 guests for an evening honoring America’s approaching 250th anniversary. Dressed in patriotic colors and colonial attire, attendees stepped into an immersive experience where the spirit of the nation’s founders met the innovation and achievements of modern America.
Featuring a colonial-themed photo booth, colonial-era feast, reenactment of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and a drone show illuminating the ideals of freedom, the evening became a tribute to the American story. “Tonight we go back to the beginning, July 4, 1776, when our forefathers officially began creating a free America, and we examine how far our nation has progressed in 250 years,” said Mitzi Henley, Vice Chair, Okaloosa County America 250 Commission.
Throughout the evening, attendees were reminded that history is more than a collection of dates and milestones. It is a story of courage, sacrifice, innovation, and opportunity that continues to unfold today. As the United States prepares to celebrate its semiquincentennial in 2026, events like this help connect communities to the ideals that shaped the nation while inspiring future generations.
